2025 Teachers, Support Personnel, and Custodian of the Year Awards. Congratulations, to Monti Regier, Sammi Haworth, Elizabeth Burghardt, and Alvin Rauh on your accomplishments! We are very thankful for each an every individual that works at Okeene Public Schools and are proud of another successful year.

We had a great time learning about the body in second grade. Students were very curious about what goes on inside their body. It was fun creating a life-size body, and everyone agreed to stay healthy.🫀🫁🧠

🎓 This isn’t goodbye—just “see you later.” 🎓
To the Class of 2025: You’ve left fingerprints on our hearts, and footprints in these hallways.
No matter how far you go, you’ll always be ours.
Go chase big dreams, stay kind, and remember… once a Whippet, always a Whippet. 🐾💙

Mr. Woolley's 6th grade class didn't let the closing of Canton Lake ruin their day...instead, they enjoyed a beautiful day enjoying Roman Nose State Park.

2nd grade learned all about watermelons today! The Okeene 4-H members shared a video about watermelon lifecycles. Students learned how to grow watermelon seeds and planted their own seed to take home. Getting to eat the watermelon was a tasty treat!🍉

Debra Whittet, former NWOSU pitcher, will be setting up dates with Mr. Penner to give lessons. Please contact Coach Penner if you're interested signing up your child for pitching lessons! 🥎

The end of a chapter, the beginning of forever. 🌟

Thank you for letting us be part of your journey. 💙

Trash Bash Success! 🗑️💪🐾
There’s nothing better than when our school and community come together—and today’s Trash Bash at the Corner proved just that! A HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make this day such a success, especially to our amazing students who showed up ready to clean up and show pride in our town. Okeene looks better because of YOU! Tracy, Maddee, and Mr. Osmus-we could not have done it without you!
After splitting into teams, students set out to compete in fun challenges while making a real difference. The overall winning team earned points for the heaviest object, heaviest bag, most unusual item, and best team name, earning a $50 donation to a club or group of their choice.
🏆 Team Results:
Jail Barkers (Juniors & Seniors): Found the most tires and hauled in the heaviest object—a railroad tie!
Sassy Sweepers (Incoming 7th, 8th, & Freshmen): Found the most unusual item—a dollhouse—AND had the heaviest bag and best team name! They decided to donate their $50 winnings to Gifted and Talented. (Thank you!)
Trash Talkers (Sophomores): Came in with solid effort, great spirit and took great pictures! They certainly take home the win for having more students show up from their class compared to any other grade level. (Their winning photos will be posted later.)
Bonus points were given for the best picture, silliest picture, and most tires collected—and those winning photos will be posted soon in a separate post, so stay tuned!
Some of the crazy items found included a golf flag, golf ball, golfing glove, muffler, headlights, a turtle, tadpoles, and in the most heartwarming twist of the day—Jayce heard a cry coming from a dumpster. Mr. Hursh emptied it and rescued a tiny kitten, who is now safe, well-fed, and has been lovingly welcomed into a new kitty family with a very sweet mama cat. 🐱
It was truly a great day to be a Whippet—serving our town, making memories, and doing it all together!

The Great Water Write-Off: Watermelon Edition! 🍉💧
Today in our Great Water Write-Off challenge, we finally tasted the much-awaited watermelon-infused water—and it was a hit! Not only is this refreshing drink packed with vitamin C, but it also supports muscle recovery and may even help lower blood pressure. According to our classroom data, 99.9% of our 7th–9th graders liked or loved it, and 90% said they'd rather drink watermelon water than plain water!
As we sip and reflect, we’re also deep into our water-themed essays and two powerful novels: The Giver by Lois Lowry and Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. Both stories explore how water—and the choices we make around it—can carry deep meaning.
In Tuck Everlasting, a single sip from a hidden spring grants eternal life. It leads us to wonder:
👉 Would you drink water that would make you live forever? Why or why not?
In The Giver, people live without color, flavor, or choice—all for the sake of order and safety.
👉 Is a life without pain or risk worth living if it also means giving up joy, beauty, and freedom of choice?
Today’s infused water might not change the world—but the conversations it inspires just might.
We also felt incredibly lucky to celebrate Logan’s birthday today, a reminder of how special each year truly is—especially when compared to Tuck Everlasting, where time stands still and birthdays lose their meaning.

Attention 8th Grade & Senior Parents: Order forms for professional pictures are due Monday! 🎓📸
