📚 Holocaust Remembrance Day in ELA 🌟 Today, our 7th, 8th, & 9th-grade ELA classes honored Holocaust Remembrance Day through meaningful learning and reflection. They explored symbolism by discussing why the Star of David represents hope and remembrance, then turned 3D-printed stars into pins and necklaces to carry this message forward. They experienced the harsh reality of concentration camps by eating three meals totaling less than 500 calories, the same rations prisoners received—an amount far too little to sustain life, work, or survival. Using VR headsets, they traveled to 13 Holocaust-related locations, including Anne Frank’s annex, Holocaust museums, and memorials, immersing themselves in history. Most importantly, they not only learned, but deeply experienced the concepts of empathy, injustice, and inhumanity, reflecting on their relevance to our world today. This day reminded them of the importance of remembering the past to ensure a better future. 🌍 Also, a very special thank you to Mrs. Feely, Mr. Feely, and Mr. Hursh who came in and worked with our students, dove into the lessons themselves, and shared their knowledge of WWII and the Holocaust.

Our 3rd grade students learned how to create 3D print images this week at the Stem Lab! Many students are now working on 3D print snowflake designs for a contest. Those who met their 2nd 9 weeks reading goal had the opportunity to practice coding Finch Robots at the Stem Lab also. They had a lot of fun! Thanks to Mrs. Hutchison for helping our students learn and experiment!

Our Okeene Speechies competed at the Alva tournament today and had 3 medalists. Sydney Biggs placed 2nd in Monologue, Wyatt Graham placed 3rd in Poetry, and Olivia Schieber placed 3rd in FEX.

Our 7th and 8th grade students soared to new heights in The Hindenburg contest, competing to earn the most points on their scorecards! Participants demonstrated their dedication by:

📰 Reading an article and answering questions with the most correct answers
✍️ Writing an informative paragraph teaching readers about the Hindenburg
🏅 The winners earned 3D gold, silver, and bronze mini Hindenburg models for their outstanding efforts!
