Today, our high school students had the opportunity to hear firsthand from three of our alumni—Daylon Krause, Jennifer Wardlaw, and Zack London. Each took very different paths after high school to find success in their careers.
Our students asked thoughtful questions about high school experiences, post-secondary education and training, and real-world career pathways. Our alumni responded with honesty and powerful advice, helping open an important conversation about the many avenues available after graduation.
Zack London, a first-generation college graduate, did not initially plan to attend college. He entered the workforce, gained valuable experience, and later chose to return to school—earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Turf Management from Oklahoma State University. He now serves as the Head Groundskeeper at Oak Tree National Golf Course.
Daylon Krause was a college-bound 4.0 student who enrolled at Oklahoma State University, but quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit. After a year, he stepped away and pursued his passion of construction with hands-on training through Autry Technology Center which allowed him to create his own local, successful business.
Jennifer Wardlaw, a first-generation college student, navigated college academics and finances without family guidance. She built strong connections through the Hispanic Student Association which provided mentorship and a sense of belonging that helped her successfully navigate elite academic spaces and prepare for professional life.
Their stories reinforced an important message for our students: there is no single “right” path after high school. Success can come through college, career tech, the workforce, or a combination of all three.
We are grateful to our alumni for giving back, sharing their journeys, and reminding our students that their futures are full of possibilities. 🐾
